Julie Phillipson

Julie started working for The Good Schools Guide in New York in 2020 and has been our writer and consultant in South Africa since 2022. From established schools on compact Cape Town city sites to sprawling modern campuses in northern Johannesburg, she loves her visits: ‘Students here are so polite and friendly, it’s a delight meeting them on my tours!’ 

Julie previously worked in various marketing roles over the years, while moving her family around the world with her husband’s career. Now on her fourth stint overseas, through her three sons she has experienced a Kent village primary, a traditional English prep, a British international school in Singapore, the UN school in New York, two boarding schools (one IB, one A levels) and two, soon to be three, UK universities.

Holding a degree in modern languages from University of Oxford, a CIM marketing qualification and a Cambridge CELTA diploma, Julie is currently taking an online proofreading and editing course. Her self-declared ‘unhealthy obsession with grammar and language’ has led to her additional role of helping with training and mentoring new international writers and editing their reviews.
